6th International Meeting on Triangular Co-operation - Lisbon |
The OECD and the Government of Portugal gathered on 6-7 October 2022 around 100 participants in Lisbon for the 6th International Meeting on TrC. This year, representatives from all continents discussed the value-added of this modality and the opportunities for establishing more and better triangular partnerships to achieve sustainable development goals. There was a call for more consistent data and for enlarging the number of actors and sectors embracing the modality. The OECD will soon share a summary of the discussions.
The GPI core group also met in the margins of the Meeting, to discuss the GPI’s strategic vision and reflect on our future work. |

GPI Marketplace |
During the Meeting in Lisbon, the GPI organised its third Marketplace, a meeting point for partners. Eleven GPI members and partners presented to all participants their triangular co-operation ideas or challenges, aiming at identifying additional partners, learning from the experiences of others and fostering new triangular co-operation opportunities. The GPI will support the follow-up and encourages participants to continue the conversation. |

Momento ADELANTE |
On 27 September, GPI participated in the Momento ADELANTE “The potential of Triangular Cooperation for the European Union countries”, hosted by ADELANTE 2 and led together with SEGIB. The event provided a space for dialogue on the strategic potential of TrC for EU countries in the framework of their International Development Co-operation policies and strategies. |

2022 GSSD Expo and GPI side event |
Between 12 to 14 September happened the 11th Global South-South Development Expo, organised by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), with the Government of Thailand and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). On that occasion, the GPI jointly organised with Germany the side-event “Triangular Co-Operation: A Modality For The Asian Century”. Welcomed by TICA’s Deputy Director-General, the panellists include representatives from China, Indonesia, Japan, as well as from Germany and SEGIB. Experts shared their experiences, good practices on triangular co-operation, and their ‘best bets’ for the future – mechanisms, sectors and partners – while facing global challenges and crises. The side event report and recordings will soon be available on UNOSSC’s website.

VI. Regional Conference on Triangular Cooperation |
The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) hosted on 7 and 8 September the “VI Regional Conference on Triangular Co-operation: (re)thinking partnerships”, organised by the GIZ Regional Fund for Triangular Cooperation with partners in Latin America and the Caribbean. The GPI and many of its members engaged in the discussions, with about 45 participants in Berlin and more than 150 joining online. The GIZ team will soon share a summary of the event.

2nd International Course on Management of SS&TrC |
Brazil (ABC), UNOSSC, and Japan (JICA) organised the 2nd International Course on Management of South-South and Triangular/Trilateral Cooperation - Phase II” between 29 August and 2 September, with representatives from 22 countries, including Brazil. Participants deepened their understanding of SS&TrC, exchanging good practices, different operation systems, and various management tools through group activities and lectures. During phases I (2012-2014) and II (2020-2022) of the programme, 163 people from 65 countries were trained, facilitating stronger partnerships and knowledge sharing to strengthen SS&TrC.

The Global Partnership Initiative on Effective Triangular Co-operation is a platform to advocate for and promote effective triangular cooperation in support of the 2030 Agenda. These objectives are advanced by members through the (1) Advocacy Work stream, which has elaborated a set of Voluntary Guidelines for Effective Triangular Co-operation and a contemporary understanding; (2) Analytical Work stream, which has collected and analysed more than 100 case studies from GPI members and produced reports on these and other findings; and, (3) Operational Work stream, which is creating spaces to share lessons learned on implementing effective triangular co-operation in a consistent and consolidated manner.
