As part of the Global South-South Development (GSSD) Expo pre-launch activities, the UNOSSC, in partnership with PAHO, UNICEF and the UNFPA, launched on 23 March the publication “Good Practices in South-South and Triangular Cooperation: Delivering on the Sustainable Development Goal on Good Health and Well-being”.

Tringular Co-operation, nutrition and SDG 2
AUDA-Nepad, UNICEF and WFP hosted the webinar on the role of SSTrC in the triple burden of malnutrition on 17 March. The participants discussed and shared good practices and solutions, raising awareness on the benefits of country-to-country learning on actions, experiences, and lessons learnt and identifying concrete actions in support of the 2022 African Union theme on nutrition.

IsDB Joins Hands with KSA’s KKESH to Fight Avoidable Blindness in Africa
On 17 March 2022, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH) signed a MoU to support the 2nd generation of the Alliance to Fight Avoidable Blindness (AFAB). It represents a significant milestone to catalyse the co-operation between the IsDB and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is an opportunity to create an exemplary partnership and inspire countries of the Arab Region to share their knowledge and expertise under the IsDB Reverse Linkage mechanism for South-South and Triangular Co-operation.

TrC in the least Developed Countries
The UNOSSC, UN-OHRLLS and the UNCDF, in partnership with the Qatar Fund for Development jointly launch another “Good Practices in South-South and Triangular Cooperation” publication on 16 March, with a particular focus on LDCs. It maps around 80 good practices relevant to the implementation of the SDGs and the priorities of the Istanbul Programme of Action.

TrC on digital tools to deliver better education
TrC on digital tools to deliver better education
On 9 February, partners from Chile, Germany, Jordan and Palestine shared their experiences and explored triangular partnerships using digital tools to improve primary education in their countries. The meeting was a follow-up of the GPI Marketplace that happened last year. Engage with the GPI to foster new partnerships.

GPI 2022 Strategic Retreat

The GPI core group gathered on 24 January to discuss the priorities and work plan for 2022. The group agreed to focus on an action-oriented angle in all activities in 2022 and position the GPI as a “connector” of knowledge, expertise and partners – within and across regions. The main priorities for 2022 are to produce evidence-based analyses on triangular co-operation and support partners in including TrC as a possible tool to deliver the 2030 Agenda. South-South and Triangular Co-operation Forum
Rwanda Co-operation, APC-Colombia and DIE hosted the SS&TrC Forum on 18 and 19 January at the Dubai Expo. For Rosine Urujeni (Rwanda Cooperation), “the Forum has contributed to the attainment of Agenda 2030 through providing thought leadership on SS&TrC and there is no doubt that, through concerted efforts on the part of all the institutions represented, we will soon witness its impact.”

CoP on Measurement and Quantification of SSC
On 7 December 2021 APC-Colombia organised the first meeting of the Community of Practice on Measurement and Quantification of South-South Cooperation, under the scope of the Knowledge Management Hub on South-South Co-operation. The event was also the first Action Dialogue organized by APC-Colombia within the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC).

New GPI member

On 13 January, the European Union’s Directorate General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), through ADELANTE 2, confirmed its membership in the GPI. The programme has already actively participated in many of our activities since the Second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation (BAPA+40). We look forward strengthening even further this collaboration.

The Global Partnership Initiative on Effective Triangular Co-operation is a platform to advocate for and promote effective triangular cooperation in support of the 2030 Agenda. These objectives are advanced by members through the (1) Advocacy Work stream, which has elaborated a set of Voluntary Guidelines for Effective Triangular Co-operation and a contemporary understanding; (2) Analytical Work stream, which has collected and analysed more than 100 case studies from GPI members and produced reports on these and other findings; and, (3) Operational Work stream, which is creating spaces to share lessons learned on implementing effective triangular co-operation in a consistent and consolidated manner.
